Inspired by the labor rights song “Bread & Roses” and St Joseph, patron saint of workers, I wanted to create a piece that united these two concepts. With Joseph representing the worker, Jesus representing the bread naturally, and Mary representing roses, this all came together smoothly. I screen printed the Holy Family and text using my own design, then beaded and embroidered on top of that. Lace and beads, including some bearing the image of Our Lady of guadalupe, and circle the figures.
