While enjoying the Gardens of Shake Rag Alley Art Center in Mineral Point, WI I came upon a wooden shrine similar to this. I wanted to recreate the structure with textiles – decorating each pillar with designs that could be thistles or feathers, gathered around a vivid blossom. The original shrine seemed so alive to me, and I wanted my embroidery and beadwork to illustrate that Spirit. Only after completing this piece did I realize it resembles the Hand of Fatima or Hamsa!
